African impacts are wherever in Salvador. The significance
of drumming and percussion of Salvador's music mirrors these impacts. During the 1970s, a flood of dark cognizance
enlivened by American soul music changed the city's Carnaval. Afterward, reggae
was consumed and the outcome was another Salvador sound by the late 1980s.
Another age of youthful stars from the city included Margareth Menezes, Luiz
Caldas, Banda Mel, Ara Ketú and Olodum. During
the 1990s Timbalada took the sound further and started combining the
overwhelming percussion with shake funk components.
